How soon can I fly after surgery in Turkey?

Usually 5–10 days after surgery under general anaesthetic, 1–3 days after dental work and about 2 days after a hair transplant – always after a check by your surgeon.

Do I need compression stockings on the flight?

After surgery, yes in most cases. They reduce the risk of a blood clot. Ask the clinic which grade to wear.

Can I fly home the day after a hair transplant?

Many clinics plan the first wash and check on day 2 or 3, so most patients fly on day 3 or 4.

Why you have to wait before flying

In the first days after surgery, swelling peaks, drains or dressings may still be in place and the surgeon needs to check the wound. A long period sitting still in a pressurised cabin also raises the risk of a blood clot in the legs (deep vein thrombosis), especially after general anaesthetic and longer operations such as a tummy tuck, BBL or combined procedures.

Reducing clot risk on the flight

Wear the compression garment and stockings the clinic gives you.
Choose an aisle seat, get up and walk every hour, and move your ankles while seated.
Drink water; avoid alcohol and sleeping pills.
Ask whether you need anticoagulant injections before the flight.
If possible, travel with a companion after surgery under general anaesthetic.

Booking your flights

Book a flexible or changeable return ticket and add one or two days of margin. Don’t plan an onward trip, holiday or long drive right after the operation.

Back home: warning signs

Seek urgent medical help if you have shortness of breath, chest pain, a painful swollen calf, a high temperature, wound redness that spreads, pus, or bleeding that does not stop.
